Rachel was a German refugee, who came to the Netherlands in January 1939. First she stayed in the Rivierenhuis in de Steeg, then in Rotterdam, first in a refugee facility at the Hoogstraat, then, from August 1st, 1939 with a family on the Vlietkade in Rotterdam.
Her parents were Sara Reisenstadt, born on February 1st, 1902 in Warsaw and Simon/Symcha Friedmann, born on March 14th, 1902 in Warsaw. Sar was deported from Düsseldorf to Minsk in November 1941, Simon was taken to Sachsenhausen in June 1940, where he died in March 1942.
