Alfred Bloch was a German refugee. He arrived in the Netherlands on November 22nd, 1938. He lived in Den Dolder and in the orphanage in Utrecht before moving in with a family in Amsterdam in September 1939.
His father had been a merchant, but had passed away. His mother, Rika Preisz, was living in Frankfurt am Main, Habsburgerallee 20, and had remarried a Mister Bloch. Alfred had been living in the orphanage in Frankfurt.
