Berlin Emigrant, returned from New York to Amsterdam

Steffie Leiffman née Lewy (the original spelling of her birth name) emigrated at the end of May 1939 from Berlin to Amsterdam with her parents Robert Lewy (b. 1885) and Lucy Ida Lewy née Tell (b. 1895). They lived until May 1939 at Sybelstr. 27 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. All three emigrated to New York on Feb. 10, 1940 from Rotterdam. Steffie applied for US citizenship and was even reported as a resident on the 1940 US Census. She returned to Amsterdam for unknown reasons, though perhaps it was to be with her husband Heinz Werner Leiffmann. Steffie was already married at the time she left for New York.
