Joël and Johanna Waterman had seven children. Son Benjamin passed away in 1913 barely two years old. Married daughters Elisabeth Heiligers-Waterman, Alida Degen-Waterman and Engelina Metzelaar-Waterman all perished in the war. Three children, of which one still resided at home, survived the war in hiding.
