Benjamin Stern and his family

Benjamin Stern was married three times. In 1904 he married Naatje Buitenkant, who died in 1921. He then married Rebecca Chottel, who was murdered by the couple’s maidservant on 3 May 1936. Benjamin Stern later married Sara Polak. No children were born into any of his marriages.
Benjamin Stern taught dancing and traded in stoneware, which he sometimes sold at the market. He ran a shop on Prinsengracht in Meppel for a while. The shop later moved to Tweede Hoofdstraat.
On 31 July 1942, Benjamin Stern was taken to the labour camp in Vledder. From there he was transported on 3 October to Westerbork, where he saw his wife Sara Stern-Polak again.

Access is subject to authorization from the Stichting Joods Maatschappelijk Werk.The Jokos file reveals that a claim was lodged for compensation for valuables surrendered to the Lippmann-Rosenthal looting bank (L-claim, number 11461/20161).
