Max Friedländer and Clara Gottschalkson married in 1894. In 1938 they came to Amsterdam from Berlin. In the war they had a daughter in Stockholm and a son in Amsterdam. They also were the parents of Adolf. On 14 October 1943 a son-in-law wrote to the daughter in Stockholm: 'ist leider nicht mehr hier' about Clara Friedländer-Gottschalkson. A son wrote on 8 December 1943: 'Erst kam Ria und Maxi weg, dann Mutter dann Ado.'
