Maurits Mogendorff (also known as Mordechai) was the son of Jesaja Mogendorff and Gezina Maria Koopmans. He got married to Saartje de Jong in Apeldoorn on 17 December 1871. She was the daughter of Simon de Jong and Eva Duveen. The couple had four children: Justus, Charles and two children who survived the war.
