Hester Hegt and her sister Rachel Mientje Hegt were daughters of Alexander Hegt and Diena Katz. Their parents had four other children, namely Michiel and Samuel, who both have survived the Holocaust, Sophia, who was killed in Sobibor with her family and another sister Sijbilla, who died only 1 year old on 2 May 1910.
Hester en Rachel Mientje resided since 1936 both in Rotterdam: at Statenweg 53a, at Delftsestraat 67b and as last known address they lived at Hofstedelaan 20a in Rotterdam, from where they were deported on 4 Augustus 1942 to Camp Westerbork. Already three days later, on 7 August both were put on transport to Auschwitz. Based on the date of death for both of 30 September 1942, is seems clear that they were not killed immediately upon arrival there on 10 August, but obviously were forced to do hard labor in the concentration camp untill they have succumbed to the hardships or have been killed.
