Abraham van Gelder was married to Reintjen de Jong. The couple had a daughter: Julchen. Abraham and Reintjen went into hiding on the Oosterkerkstraat in Aalten, where they were caught following their betrayal.

The mayor of Aalten requested that Abraham van Gelder and his wife Reintjen van Gelder-de Jong be located, detained and brought to trial. They resided in Aalten and were suspected of having changed their place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
