Meijer was a tailor and had his workshop at home. Martha ran a small kosher boarding-house at their home for a few elderly people who lived with the family. She hoped that the money would safeguard her children’s maintenance and their future. They had made a hiding-place in the house: it was a small room, camouflaged behind a cupboard. The two children were concealed there when their parents were taken away on 26 May 1943.
