The Wijnberg family had a hiding place prepared in 1942. However, they believed it was too early to start using it.
The Polak family from Winschoten had been turned out of their house by the Germans. Mozes and Marianne Wijnberg took them in. The Polak family was picked up in the middle of the night. Instead of immediately going to their hiding place, the Wijnberg family went back to bed. Early in the morning, after the Germans apparently had not found enough Jews at home, they came back for the Wijnberg family.
