Herbert Mannheim and his family

Herbert Mannheim married in Berlin in 1923. His two children were born there. Herbert Mannheim was a general practitioner in Berlin. In 1933 the family fled to Amsterdam. Since he had qualified as a medical practitioner in Germany, he was not allowed to practise medicine in the Netherlands, so he and his wife started a massage institute in Amsterdam. In March 1941 he was arrested and transferred to Westerbork, where he worked as head of the outpatient clinic.
Hedwig Peiser was Herbert’s sister-in-law.
