Hartog Harpman was a son of Josua Harpman and Naatje Beth. He was married to Grietje van Emden in Weesp on 4 September 1903. She was the daughter of Levy van Emden and Schoontje de Boer. Both, Hartog and Grietje worked as diamond polishers. The couple had four children: Josua, Jeannette (who passed away in 1912), Louis and Henri. During the war the family went into hiding together at one address. They were arrested due to betrayal.
