Herman Heijmans studied medicine in Amsterdam, where he sat for his medical finals in June 1916. He specialized in obstetrics and gynaecological ailments. On 21 October 1926 he took his PhD degree in Amsterdam for his thesis on diathermal and light treatment for gynaecological infection processes. Herman Heijmans lived and practised medicine at 58 Jan Luykenstraat in Amsterdam. He also practised medicine at 18 Pretoriusstraat and at 123 Noorder Amstellaan. Herman Heijmans was married to Betty van Esso. The couple had two children, Ernst Bob and Theodoor.
