Mozes van der Kaars was a son of Emanuel Mozes van der Kaars (a merchant, sexton and shomer) and Judith Salomons de Jong. He married Roosje Cohen in Leeuwarden on 14 May 1904. The couple had three sons: Emanuel, Barend (died in Leeuwarden on 18 December 1914) and Salomon (died before 1940). Mozes van der Kaars was a butcher.
