Jacob Rozendal was a son of Jacob Rozendal and Schoontje Glazer. He married Sophia Bos. The couple had one son, Jacob Salomon, who was born in 1920. Jacob Rozendal lived on Hagendwarsstraat in Meppel until 1938, when he moved to Noteboomstraat 48. He ran a textiles business there. Jacob had a small shop attached to his house. For the rest he had stalls at various markets and sold his wares to country people.
In the wartime he was forced to abandon his business and lost his income. In spite of his weak constitution he received a summons to report for work at Orvelte labour camp. On 20 July 1942 he was in hospital after a diabetes attack, but the police came to arrest him there anyway. The doctor tried unsuccessfully to prevent him from being removed from the hospital.
In October 1942 Jacob Rozendal ended up in Westerbork transit camp, where he saw his wife again, who had been arrested in the night of 2-3 October. Their son, Jacob Salomon Rozendal, lived elsewhere and did not survive the war. There is a biographical account of the Rozendal family on the website with a number of photos.
