Simon Abram and his family

Barend Abram, son of Simon Abram (who rented carts) and Elisabeth van West, married Grietje Scheffer in Amsterdam on 24 July 1942. Grietje Scheffer, the fourth child of Salomon Scheffer and Rosetta Victoria Levitus, was sent to the girls' orphanage at 171 Rapenburgerstraat in Amsterdam after her father died in 1930. When she turned 18, she left the orphanage to help her mother at home.
After they were married, Barend Abram and Grietje Scheffer lived at 85 Valkenburgerstraat in Amsterdam. A few weeks later Simon Abram was removed from his home during a raid and deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork.
Grietje Abram-Scheffer was visiting her mother on Hofmeyrstraat during the raid. She remained there. On 3 October she and her mother were dragged from there and deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork.
Copies remain of Grietje Scheffer's birth certificate, of Barend Abram and Grietje Scheffer's marriage certificate and of the death certificate of the metal worker Barend Abram.
