Benjamin Nieweg was a son of Levi Nieweg and Geertje van Zanten. He worked as a dealer in cattle. On 26 June 1903 in Appingedam he was married to Sophia Bamberger, a daughter of Meijer Mozes Bamberger and Mereltje Cohen. The couple had three children: Geertje, Meijer and Mietje.

Benjamin Nieweg was a cattle dealer and also had a butcher shop at home. The cows went through the small door on the side of the house. At the back they were ritually slaughtered. The table for the window was the counter.
