Mozes van de Rhoer and his family

In 1916 Mozes van de Rhoer married Rebekka van Gelder. He had previously been married to her sister Bertha, who had died in 1913. Bertha and Mozes had a child that survived the war.
Mozes was a cattle trader and was very well known in the surrounding area. Rebekka van de Rhoer-van Gelder was the branch manager of the Lido sweetshop that was downstairs from their home on Hoofdstraat in Meppel. Their daughter Sonja was a nurse.
In 1942, Mozes, Rebekka and Sonja were evicted from their home and went to live on Grote Kerkstraat. At the end of July 1942 Mozes was ordered to report to Orvelte labour camp. Rebekka would not see him again until they all found themselves in Westerbork transit camp, after she and Sonja had been arrested and taken from their house on Grote Kerkstraat.
