Gerda Renée Pinto (nickname Gerdi) was born on 7 December 1923 in Offenbach am Main in Germany. She had an elder brother: Eugen. Her father, Bernard Pinto, was born on 15 March 1886 in Groningen. In Germany, he ran a braces factory. After the Kristallnacht, the family moved to the Utrechtseweg 60 in Arnhem. Gerda Renée Pinto was entered in the town's register on 21 November 1939.
The family Pinto went into hiding halfway through 1942. A year later, they were betrayed and rounded up. Gerda managed to escape and after roaming around, she ended up with Chris and Riek Alberti at 85 Buurtlaan in Veenendaal. She died six weeks later, in the night of 9 to 10 June 1943. The family doctor, J. Remme, recorded the cause of death as cardiac weakness. She was buried temporarily in the back garden and was reburied after the war in the Jewish cemetery at the Parallelweg in Veenendaal. Her burial place is marked with a tombstone carrying her name.
