Joseph Bamberger and Ernestine Stern (also known as Emma) got married in 1905. They lived in Munich where Joseph ran a kosher butcher shop. In 1937 (or 1939) the couple fled to the Netherlands. They settled in Scheveningen where one of their two children was already living.
In 1940 all non-Dutch Jews were ordered by the Nazis to move away from the coastal cities. The family chose Utrecht, which is more inland. There Joseph and Emma lived untill 1942 when they were deported to Auschwitz. The two children both survived the war.
