Emanuel Sealtiel was a 'gabbe' at the Sephardic synagogue in The Hague. This meant that he acted as a monitor during services. He and his family lived in the annex to the synagogue on Prinsessegracht. His son Benjamin, also known as Ben, was an ivory carver. He had his studio on the ground floor of the building where today the entrance of the Liberaal Joodse Gemeente [Congregation of liberal-religious Jews] is located.
