Joseph Lion was in the beginning of the twentieth century the founder of the meat and margarine factory Jos Lion Löwenberg in Boxmeer. It was a very important company in town, the factory had telephone number 1 (to call the mayor one had to choose 2). In 1921 this company had more than 200 employees and was by far the largest employer of Boxmeer. In the late twenties the company went less well and was sold. In Boxmeer is a Lionstraat and in the townhall hangs a tile tableau in which the importance of the factories for the village is represented.
