Nathan van Zwaanenburgh was the secretary to the Jewish community in Zwolle. In the war the family went into hiding , but they were discovered and taken away. The fortunes of the Zwaanenburgh-Hirsch family have been described by J. Breukelaar in the book Halte Varsseveld. Verhalen over onderduiken bij de dames Jolink en hun geestverwanten. The municipality of Zwolle named a street after Mirjam Chaja van Zwaanenburgh’s daughter, because she was the youngest victim to be taken away from the city.
