During the war Maurits van Voolen worked for the Jewish Council. While he was at his office at the Nieuwe Keizersgracht he heard that his family had been arrested during a major raid in Amsterdam. He wrote a letter to friends to notify them. Maurits was going to follow his family and he would voluntarily report at Westerbork. He asked these friends to send parcels and letters.
