Philipus Nathan van Dien (known as Flip) was the eldest son of David van Dien and Roosje de Winter. As an insurer, he worked at his father's office. He was married to Rozalina van Rhijn. The couple had a daughter: Roosje Eva van Dien. They lived for many years at 17 Zaalbergstraat in Alphen aan den Rijn and were then forced to move several times. On 25 August 1941 they moved to 15a Zaalbergstraat and in July 1942 to the house of his parents at 13 Stationsstraat. In August 1942, when that house was confiscated, the family moved to 30a Oranjestraat, from where they were fetched on 30 September 1942 and sent to Westerbork.
