Martijn Stofkooper was married. His wife and their child survived the war. He was also the father of an extramarital child that was born on 31 July 1940. This child also survived the war. Somewhere in the first few months of 1942 Martijn Stofkooper and his wife divorced and lived seperately.

The Police Commissioner of Enschede requested that Martijn Stofkooper, resident in Enschede, be located, detained and brought to trial. He was suspected of having changed his place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
