Betje Braasem was a daughter of Mourits Braasem and Rebekka Bartha van Oss. She married 15 August 1894 in Middelburg to Levi van Wittene, son of Andries van Wittene and Duifje van der Heim.
The couple had seven children, of whom their daughter Duifje died in February 1898, only 6 months old. The other children were Andries (who passed away in Middelburg 30 September 1933), Mouritz and Eva (who both have survived the Holocaust), Rebecca Bartha, Saartje and Duifje. Levie van Witten however passed away on 10 May 1924 in Middelburg.
In 1941 Betje van Wittene-Braasem lived with the family of one of her children. In July 1942 the whole family had to move to Amsterdam by orders of the nazis.
