Margaretha van Dantzig, also called Greta, was born as the fourth daughter of Samuel van Dantzig (bankdirector) and Adele Rippe. Her parents had seven children of whom two survived the war. On 26 June 1902 Greta got married to Mozes, also called Mau, Hilsum. The couple got two children: Regina and a child that survived the war. Mozes died in 1907 at the age of 34, two months before the birth of his second child. Daughter Regina died in 1932 at the age of 29. Relatives who survived the war remember Greta as a strong, loving and humorous woman who played beautiful violine.
In the inheritance of Margaretha Hilsum-van Dantzig a small letter was found in which she asked to be buried with her husband. To comply with this request relatives placed a monument at the grave of Mozes Hilsum.
