Bernard Wolff Beffie studied medicine in Amsterdam, where he sat for his medical finals on 26 February 1900. He specialised in dermatology and venereal diseases.
Bernard Wolff Beffie was a member of the United Chess Association of Amsterdam. During the raid of 20 June 1943, he fell in the hands of the SD.

Bernard Wolff Beffie was a son of Isaac Wolff who added the name Beffie to his familyname in 1877. The parental family counted ten children, seven boys and three girls. One child, Joseph, has died young.
Bernard Wolff Beffie was married to Dirkje Johanna Kuiper. She died in 1938. The couple did not have children.
