Salomon van der Sluis was a son of Mozes van der Sluis and Sientje Godfried. His wife, Eva Roos, had died in 1941. The couple had two children. Salomon van der Sluis ran an export butcher’s business, which was initially based on Woldstraat in Meppel. When the business outgrew these premises, it was relocated to Ezingerweg 28. In 1942 he was forced to stop trading and in September 1942 he was ordered to leave his house at Woldstraat 76, since it had been requisitioned by the Wehrmacht. Salomon van der Sluis moved in with his daughter and her family at Woldstraat 6. In the night of 2-3 October 1942 he was arrested and taken to Westerbork, together with his family.
