Early April 1945, prisoners from the concentration camp Bergen Belsen were transferred to concentration camp Theresienstadt in three trains. Many prisoners did not survive this train journey. Aron Peekel succumbed at the route Uelzen-Lüneburg. Due to an air raid, a burial could not take place and the mortal remains had to be left on the Wittenberge railroad station.
