Salomon Hoogstraal was a son of Hartog Hoogstraal and Geertje Nieweg. He married 12 October 1902 in Assen to Carolina Bernard, a daughter of Ephraim Bernard and Frouke van Hessen.
The couple had nine children; one daughter left with her husband to Bandung (Dutch East Indies); another daughter has survived the war however not her husband Heinz Rafael Silberberg. The seven other children, Geertje, Hartog, Paulina Jansje, Grietje Schoontje, Abraham and the at home living Ephraim and Simon have been killed all during the Holocaust.
