About Clara de Boers

Clare de Boers received a notification to report for transfer to camp Westerbork in 1942. Aquintances offered her the opportunity to go into hiding. Clara declined the offer to be able to look after her brother Jacob who had also received a notification. Jacob de Boers was a COPD-patient.
Clara de Boers sent a letter from camp Westerbork. Among other things she wrote: 'Sunday we had to hand in our papers. And then we were assigned to a barrack. It consists of 1 kitchen and 2 bedrooms. Sunday-afternoon we were given a small half bread, a piece of spiced gingerbread and some butter. In the evening we were given some soup and potatoes with cabbage. (...) Tomorrow at 6 a. m., we will travel onward - in the direction of Silesia, they say. It’s not bad here, just like a small village. They say relatives are allowed to stay together on the way to Germany, and according to the News Office here we can even stay together in Germany.'
