Jehuda Lion Palache was appointed professor at the Theological Faculty at the University of Amsterdam. The appointment of a Jew at this Faculty, where one can study to become a preacher, caused great controversy.
Under Palache's management, the study of Semitic literature, and particularly the study of Arabic, thrived. He mostly because famous as a philologist. Jehuda Lion Palache wrote a few popular works, including an 'Introduction to the Talmud' which was reprinted in 1954 without any alterations.
Jehuda Lion Palache was chairman of the Portugese Israelite Community in Amsterdam. He and his wife were deported to Auschwitz via Theresienstadt.
