Jacobus Maurits Boas was the editor of the Makelaarsweekblad [weekly for estate agents] until the journalists' decree in June 1941, when he was forced to resign because he was Jewish. He also served as secretary to the association of estate agents. He planned to resign as secretary on 1 January 1942, which would mark the 25th anniversary of his board membership. In October 1941 Nazi measures forced him to cease his secretarial duties before the date scheduled.
Two letters remain that Jacobus Maurits Boas wrote from Westerbork, one dated 14 June 1943 and the other 25/26 June 1943.
After the war an In Memoriam about Jacobus Maurits Boas appeared in the Makelaarsweekblad.
