About Arie Cohen

Arie Cohen was a son of Maurice and Jeannette Cohen. His parents had died in respectively 1930 and 1933. Arie Cohen was not married. In the twenties he had a drapery shop in Meppel called Cohen’s Manufacturenhandel. The company was first located at the Oosteinde, but later moved to the Catherinastraat 1. In September 1935 the company was closed down.
Arie Cohen lived with his sister Elisabeth (Bep) van Esso-Cohen in the Emmastraat 86 in Meppel. He was a cantor and preacher in the synagogue and also a teacher at the (former) Jewish school in the Touwstraat.
On 17 August 1942 Arie Cohen was brought to a labour camp in Linde. Immediately afterwards he was further deported to camp Westerbork
