Maurits Velleman was a son of Levie Andries Velleman and Sara Blog. He married on 10 Sepember 1930 to Rebecca Cardozo, daughter of Jonas Cardozo and Esther Rood. The couple had 3 children: Esther, Marianna and Clara.
Maurits had two other brothers and a sister, of whom his brother Levie did not survive the Holocaust.
