Gabriel Fonteijn was a son of Isaac Anthonie Fonteijn and Keetje Wertheim. He married Clara Kelderman on 7 december 1881. The couple had five children. Their first child died at a young age. Of the remaining four children who all lived on their own during the occupation, three didn't survive the war.
