Rebecca Schevis was the daughter of Arie Schelvis and Elsje Polak. She was engaged to Raphael (Felix) Ensel, who was picked up in the February 1941 raid a couple of days before they were to be married. In the period that followed, Rebecca Schelvis stayed with her in-laws at Krugerplein 36 II. One day in September 1942, she came home to find the house suddenly empty, because the entire family had been taken away. Rebecca Schelvis then moved in with her older brother Mozes and his wife. She was taken away in March 1943, but the next day she was allowed to leave the Hollandsche Schouwburg because of efforts made by her boss to have her released. Soon after, however, she was picked up again and deported by way of Westerbork to Sobibor .
