Therese van Zwanenburg was a daughter of Salomon van Zwanenburg and Estella Jacobs. Her parents passed way before the war; her mother, Estella Jacobs from Zwolle died in Rotterdam 23 August 1917 as the widow of Salomon Zwanenburg, aged 78 years and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery Toepad in Rotterdam. She had two brother Karl Emil and Albert Lodewijk van Zwanenburg. She was unmarried.
In October Therese van Zwanenburg was locked in in Westerbork where she had to stay in barack 64. At her registration card of the Jewish Council was made this note/query 14 October 1942 “G I ?”. This was actually the question whether Therese van Zwanenburg belonged to Jewish faith community or not. 16 October 1942 she presents documents of the Nederlands Hervormde Gemeente (Dutch Protestant Congregation), in which was declared that the person involved already belonged to a Christian Confession before 1 January 1941. 17 October a renewed petition was presented and 20 October she received documents and was referred to the “Antragstelle”. (application centre). The result was that Therese van Zwanenberg was temporay exempted from deportation until further notice. And 23 November the decision was made that she will stay in Westerbork for the time being.
Afterwards it turned out that all efforts were in vain. Eventually, Therese van Zwanenburg was deported with the same transport which included also her brother Karl Emil and his wife Rosalie of 27 April 1943 to Sobibor. On arrival there 30 April 1943, she was immediately killed.
