About Max Levenbach

Max Levenbach played an important role in the professionalization of chess in the Netherlands. From 1915 to 1927 he was the chairman of the Vereenigd Amsterdamsch Schaak Genootschap (the Amsterdam chess association). He was appointed permanent chairman of the Euwe committee for the promotion of the international character of Dutch chess. In this role, he regularly hosted foreign guests in his home. In 1926, a fund was established to enable Max Euwe to participate in international championships.
