Jozef Salomon de Groot was married to Martha Levie. The couple had two children. He lived with his family in the home of his sister, Rachel Clara de Groot, who had died on 2 September 1942. Jozef Salomon de Groot was a travelling salesman.

In February 1943 a request for information concerning his whereabouts was published in the Algemeen Politieblad. The Zwolle state and municipal police commissioner requested that Jozef Salomon de Groot, residing at 3a Emmastraat in Zwolle, be located, detained and brought to trial. He was suspected of having changed his place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding. Both of Jozef Salomon de Groot's children survived the war.

Jozef Salomon de Groot was registered at the Chamber of Commerce in Zwolle in 1942, with his agency for lady's articles. In October 1943 the business was officially registered as dissolved.
