Irma Stein was the daughter of Lazarus Stein and Paula Winter. In 1909, the family was living on Capitelstrasze 47 in Neuss. Her father earned a living selling potatoes. At the time of the war, her widowed mother came to live with her and her husband. Her brother Friedrich lived in Amsterdam during the war.

The police commissioner of Helmond requested that Irma Coppel, residing in Helmond, be located, detained and brought to trial. She had left her place of residence without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
