Moritz Tas died on 17 October 1943 in Westerbork transit camp and he was cremated on 18 October 1943. The urn with his ashes was placed in the columbarium III in the crematorium in Westerveld.

A surviving nephew wrote in the newspaper Het Parool of 20 December 2008 about the dead of his uncle. He wrote: 'According to a a male nurse [ in Westerbork] it was a mercy killing. My uncle was heavily disabled and the male nurse was a meddler who thought he could spare my uncle a lot of sufferíng by killing him.'
