Martin Daan Wolff originally came from Meppel, where his father had a wallpaper shop. Martin attended the Rijks HBS (modern grammar school) there, and was no longer living with his parents by the time of the war. He went into hiding but his location was betrayed in the summer of 1944 by a member of the Landwacht. Eventually, he was sent on the last transport from Westerbork transit camp to Auschwitz, where he was found to be fit to work and assigned to Gleiwitz labour camp, where he died during or after its liberation. His parents survived the war by going into hiding; his brother was killed at Auschwitz in 1943.
