Joseph van der Hoek worked from August 1942 onwards at the working camp De Witte Paal in St. Johannesga in Friesland. In the first days of October 1942 he was brought to Westerbork. At camp Westerbork he was reunited with his family who were arrested in Ommen and also brought to the transit-camp.
