Simon van Praag studied medicine in Amsterdam, where he sat for his medical finals on 24 June 1893. He established himself in 1906 as a family doctor in Rotterdam. Since 1919, he was associated with the Gemeentelijke Geneeskundige en Gezondheidsdient (Municipal Health Service). Simon van Praag sat on the Board of the General Health Insurance Fund of Rotterdam and of the Israelite Health Colonies of Rotterdam. In April 1925, he retired as a doctor. At that point, he settled at 15 Jan van Goyenstraat in Heemstede.
