Godard van Gelderen was a son of Abraham van Gelderen and Mietje Zilverberg. He married 21 September 1932 in Amsterdam to Lea Bril, a daughter of Isaac Bril and Mietje Boeken.
The couple had no children.
When his mother died on 19 April 1931, his father remarried on 7 December 1932 in Amsterdam to Saartje van Gelder. His father passed away in October 1939.
Godard had four sisters who have survived the war. His other siblings, Betje, Rebekka, Samuel and Louis have been killed during the Holocaust.
