Meijer van Praag was a son of Gerrit van Praag and Esther Oudkerk, a family with six childern, of which his sister Dina and his brother Hijman also died in the Holocaust. Meijer married in Amsterdam on 24 August 1905 to Sara Frank, daughter of Mozes Frank and Hendrika Roos. Sara suvived the Holocaust. Besides a stillborn daughter, the couple had three more children: Gerrit, Maurits and Hijman.
